Paul Robinson Solicitors, a long established and well-respected local firm and long-standing and loyal client of Talis projects, commissioned a refurbishment of the main reception area within their iconic former bank building on London Road. The project aimed to create a welcoming, contemporary front-of-house experience that reflected the firm’s professionalism and approachability, while respecting the character and architectural heritage of the historic building.
The existing reception space no longer reflected the firm’s brand or the quality of service offered. Key requirements included:
A refreshed, modern reception that enhances first impressions
Improved functionality for staff and visitors with new formal and informal meeting spaces
A design that complements and preserves the character of the former bank building
Minimal disruption to day-to-day operations during the works
Liaising with our excellent designer Laura we focused on balancing modern elegance with heritage sensitivity. The reception layout was reconfigured to improve flow and clarity on arrival, creating a calm and intuitive visitor journey.
Materials and finishes were carefully selected to complement the building’s original features, allowing historic elements to remain a focal point while introducing a contemporary layer. Clean lines, refined detailing and a restrained palette were used to reinforce the firm’s professional identity without overwhelming the space.
Feature lighting played a key role in the transformation, enhancing architectural details and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere throughout the reception area.
In addition to the internal refurbishment, external improvement works were undertaken to enhance the building’s street presence. The existing stonework was carefully refreshed, the external lighting upgraded to highlight architectural details, and the windows refurbished to improve both appearance and performance. These enhancements ensure the building continues to make a strong and welcoming impression on London Road, while preserving the character of the historic façade.
Working within a live office environment, the project was carefully programmed to minimise disruption to staff and clients. Close coordination with the client ensured clear communication throughout the build, allowing the refurbishment to be delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
Attention to detail was paramount, particularly given the building’s historic fabric and prominent reception setting.
The refurbished reception now provides a confident and inviting first impression for Paul Robinson Solicitors. The space successfully blends contemporary design with the character of the former bank building, reinforcing the firm’s established presence while presenting a modern, client-focused environment.
The new reception enhances both the visitor experience and day-to-day functionality, creating a front-of-house space that aligns with the firm’s brand values and long-term vision.
